Recently we brought in our 2006 Ford Focus That has a manual transmission. The shifter was very loose and shifting was becoming a problem. The mechanic, John, identified the problem as a worn out plastic bushing. As an aside, it just does not make sense to use plastic parts in a shifter assembly. Anyway, that part is no longer available, as is the shifter assembly. So John fixed up a metal bushing that did the trick. As far as I’m concerned, this part should last for as long as we keep the car.
